What Is A Joint Pain Specialist Called? I Know The Doctor Said Something About Skeleto?
I have had chronic severe hip, back and joint pain for the last 9 months and the doctor has referred me to a hospital specialist for treatment, injections, MRI …? Can anyone tell me the title of this kind of specialist as I need it to fill in a DLA form? I know it was quite a long name and included something like skeleto?

Orthopedic Consultant/Doctor – Skeletal System
Rheumatology Consultant/Doctor – Musculoskeletal System
Orthopedic would usually deal with ‘joint replacements’ or broken bones and via surgery.
Rheumatologist, the name for the Rheumatology Consultant deals with Arthritis via drugs, injections, PT, hydrotherapy. Therefore I would state you will see a Rheumatologist first. Now IF say your hip is so bad that you cannot walk, or need lots of serious pain killers just to walk, let alone a zimmer frame, the Rheumatologist will transfer you to a Orthopedic Consultant for a hip replacement.

For joints it’s normally an orthopaedic surgeon, you’d see or if not a surgeon, definitely that department, although there is skeleto-muscular, if that rings any bells? If you are having an MRI it will be Radiology/Clinical Imaging department (depending what the hospital calls that department). However, you don’t normally get referred to a Radiologist, as they don’t normally hold clinics and see patients like other consultants do. Your GP can refer you for an x-ray, or an MRI scan or something like that and it’ll be a Radiographer that takes the images, then a consultant/Radiologist with look at them to give the result (though in less complicated images a Radiographer can do this), then your result will go back to your GP. You will probably never see the Radiologist unless it is requested to have them present or it is a slightly more complicated examination. If your GP has referred you to Orthopaedics (joints, bones etc) then the Orthopaedic consultant/surgeon can refer you for an MRI scan and the result will go back to Orthopaedics and you will have to make another appointment to come back in to discuss the result.

Probably Chiropractor re bone resetting. Pain in the joints could be related to acidity in your system. The reaction is the production of uric acid, the crystals of which settle in the joints with results of pain.
